In recent weeks we have seen a number of heart breaking murders involving knives amongst young people in Bristol. The city is not alone in experiencing these incidents and I am truly grateful for the amazing work our Violence Reduction Partnership does across our five local authorities to target and support vulnerable young people before they get caught up in serious violence. The VRP has worked with over 10,000 young people since it was set up and continues to work with schools, communities and youth groups across Avon and Somerset.
But I know parents are worried at what they see and hear on the news and want to keep their children safe. We all want to understand the complex issues surrounding knife crime and youth violence and I am determined we look at root causes and intervene as early as possible.
Below are my initial thoughts and hopefully a conversation starter - I want young people to grow up with a sense of purpose, community and responsibility. Let me know your thoughts and let's work together to make our young people safer throughout our communities.
